The game of Bingo began many centuries ago, but it wasn't until 1929 that it became known as Bingo when a man named Edwin Lowe introduced a game called Beano into New York. When the first game was played, the woman who won stood up and nervously stuttered "B-B-B-Bingo" and so it became known as Bingo. At this time there had been no work done on the number of combinations and each game was found to be producing up to and above ten winners in large-scale games. Lowe consulted a retired mathematician to produce 6000 cards with original combinations of numbers to ensure, as far as possible, that there was only one winner in each game.
Bingo in modern times.
Bingo has seen something of a huge revolution recently and the image of being a game for old ladies in sheepskin shoes has been replaced with that of an online gambling extravaganza enjoyed by people of all ages and from all walks of life. New bingo halls seem to be appearing on a near daily basis and chains of bingo halls have begun to form with national and even, in some cases, multinational prizes that can add up to very large sums of money. Because there is little skill involved in the game it is considered to be very similar to a lottery, and as such there are numerous different guises beginning to pop up and even digital and sky TV channels dedicated solely to Bingo and the different forms of Bingo games.
Even more recently has seen the advent of Bingo sites on the Internet and these truly are a multinational event with players from every corner of the earth trying their luck against one another to try and win the top prizes. Internet sites make things even easier by marking off your numbers for you, so you can basically just leave it to auto play without you even having to be there. Because of the increased ease associated with the Internet and the advance of Internet technology means that there are now chat games where you can chat to other players while your PC does all the hard work for you.
Bingo prizes.
Bingo prizes were originally only teddy bears given out to the numerous winners of games. Then as the number of winners were reduced to one per game the prizes began to become more and more exclusive. Near the beginning of Bingo's modern life there was one game in the New York's Teaneck Armory where 70,000 people turned up to compete for ten brand new cars. 10,000 had to be turned away at the door. Modern Internet games offer not only first prizes of $10,000 but they also offer progressive jackpots that grow and grow as long as they aren't won. Usually progressive jackpots mean that you need to win within a certain number of balls, so the prizes can be extraordinarily large.
The price of a game is entirely dependant on where you are playing, the size of the prize fund and also the type of game you are playing. Games can range from very few balls to as many as 90 balls and winning patterns include a full house which is every number on your card, a horizontal line and many more modern alternative winning shapes.
